What are the High Level Meetings?

25 April 2011

Three decades into the AIDS pandemic, ten years after the adoption of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and five years after the adoption of the Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS, Member States will come together to review progress and chart the future course of the global AIDS response at the 2011 UN General Assembly High Level Meeting on AIDS from 8 –10 June 2011 in New York.

Member States are expected to adopt a new Declaration that will reaffirm current commitments and commit to actions to guide and sustain the global AIDS response.

This new Declaration will likely determine the direction of the HIV/AIDS response in the coming years.

It is vital that the response be accurate and efficient, designed in direct response to the needs and challenges voiced by those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, along with those already leading their communities in the fight against the disease.

Thus, it is vital to have YOUR VOICE heard at these High Level Meetings. One way to ensure this is to read and sign the Call To Action statement, devised by hundreds of youth representatives at the recent Mali Youth Summit. By endorsing this document, you are ensuring that your voice will be heard at the High Level Meetings on HIV/AIDS in June 2011.
