From the 14th – 24th July 2011, Broadway Academy brings to you a new award-winning musical, never before seen by Malaysians, titled, “Dreamgirls : The Broadway Musical Sensation”. With music by Henry Krieger, lyrics and book by Tom Eyen, Dreamgirls : The Broadway Musical Sensation is a Broadway musical based upon the show business aspirations and successes of R&B acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, Jackie Wilson and others. The musical follows the story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called “The Dreams”, who become music superstars. The musical has been awarded 6 Tony Awards for Best Musical and nominated 13 Tony Awards. With a full Malaysian cast, featuring celebrities such as Cheryl Samad, Dina (Malaysian Idol), Tony Eusoff, Azura Zainal and many more. What makes this musical even more interesting, is that Broadway Academy’s brought in a special guest performer, Kris Coleman, all the way from New York City, with an aim to inspire, motivate and help raise the standards of the Malaysian musical theatre scene.
Kris Coleman’s contribution to the musical industry include performances in Broadway’s hit musical ‘Jersey Boys’, Sister Act, Big River, Steel, Once on This Island, The Amen Corner, One Mo’ Time, and A Midsummer’s Nights Dream. With such a great talent aboard the all-Malaysian musical cast, Dreamgirls : The Broadway Musical Sensation, this musical will without a doubt, be one to blow you off your feet.
On the 24th July 2011, Broadway Academy will be running a charity night show, with proceeds going to PT Foundation and Safeclinic.
